Some notes about the final exam coverage. This year's exam has a greater emphasis on separation of variables than the 2009 final. Thus you should be careful when assuming that just because a topic was not covered on the 2009 exam, then it will not be covered in 2010. For example we covered amongst new material section 4.5 and higher dimensional separation of variables. Feel free to email me. Also if you want to communicate by skype, then email me, and I will give you my skype address.
Your Assignment 10's and other uncollected work is available from the Applied Math Office MC 255.
Examinable Assignment 11 Material Part A and Part B material are examinable (except for the part B material on convolutions). Part C material is not examinable. The new material given in the later parts of Assignment 11 D will not be examined. However questions related to numerics throughout the course/assignments/midterm/quiz are possible.
One Page Notes allowed on Final: One side of an 8.5 x 11 Sheet (front side only) of 12 pt (minimum) size writing allowed. In particular handwriting and equations should be no smaller than that on page 27 of Logan; and have no more than 5 lines per inch. Failure to meet these criteria or to hand in your info sheet will incur a penalty. Note that your exam is on Tuesday December 14 2:00 pm SSC 3014. For this and other exam times see UWO Exam Schedule

Correction to formula in lectures: Note the following correction to the PDE ut = D uxx + c ux, that I gave in the lecture on Wednesday Sept 29, with corresponding source solution (1.24) on pg 29 of the text. The PDE should be changed to ut = D uxx - c ux, ie. to (1.23) on page 29 of the text where it is correctly given.

There have been difficulties in accessing MyVLab for the Bonus problem in Maple. Hence I am postponing the hand-in of the problem until Monday, October 4, next week, in class. MyVLab Maple is now fixed.
Hint for 1.2/Q12*: The difficult thing in this question, is that its not possible to solve the problem completely explicitly. A hint is that it is possible to solve it in terms of the anti-derivative F(x) of f(x), i.e. in terms of F(x) such that F'(x) = f(x).
I was asked a lot about 1.2/Q8* so I am giving the solution below (it is also now not a * problem, since I have given it now in detail: Solution to 1.2/Q8 on pq 16
Note: you will be allowed to work in pairs on the bonus problem on Assignment 2 (and only on this assignment). Hand in printouts and don't email worksheets (handwritten form of the commands is OK for this assignment). Solution to 1.2/Q7 on pq 16 Quiz 1 Solutions Assignment 2 is now available.
