Mathematics is at least five thousand years old, and has had contributions from
many of the liveliest minds ever to grace the Earth. As such it would be impossible
to give a comprehensible overview in such a short space. Instead, we present
selected `flavours' of applied mathematics, representative of what we do here or
find interesting, that may give a hint as to the excitement, generality, and depth
