Three-Year B.Sc. in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science

Admission Requirements

A first year program with a mark of at least 60% in one of: Calculus 050a/b plus 051a/b, or Applied Mathematics 026. Linear Algebra 040a/b and a first year physics course are strongly recommended. Computer Science 025a or 026a/b, and 027a/b, in each case with a mark of at least 60%, constitute additional prerequisites for the Applied Mathematics and Computer Science Program.

Second Year

  • Calculus 280a/b (Mathematical Methods for Scientists I)
  • Calculus 281a/b (Mathematical Methods for Scientists II)
  • DE 215a (Ordinary Differential Equations)
  • Comp. Sci. 208a/b (Fundamentals of Computer Organization)
  • Comp. Sci. 209a/b (Applied Logic and Computer Science)
  • Comp. Sci. 210a/b (Algorithms, Data Structures and software Engineering)
  • Comp. Sci 211a/b(Software Tools and Systems Programming )
  • Comp. Sci 212a/b/y(Introduction to Software Engineering )
  • Math. 222a (Discrete Structures)
  • One half course option (Linear Algebra 040a/b must be taken if it was not taken in first year)
NOTE: The former Computer Science 201 and an additional half-course option may be substituted for Computer Science 210a/b, 211a/b, 212a/b/y.

Third Year

Progression into Third Year: To proceed to the third year of this program, an average of at least 60% in the 4.5 mandatory second year courses is required.
  • AM 261b (Numerical Analysis)
  • AM 310a/b (Modeling and Simulation)
  • AM 380 (Mathematical Methods for Scientists III) Not offered in 2002-2003. See a department counsellor.
  • One and one-half Computer Science courses at 300 level
  • Math. 223b (Discrete Structures)
  • Stat. Sci. 241a/b (Applied Statistics for Engineers and Scientists) or Stat. Sci. 257a (Probability)
  • One half course option
The Area of Concentration will consist of the 9.0 senior-level AM, Comp. Sci., Math and Stat. Sci. courses which are specified in 2nd and 3rd years (8.5 courses for those who have completed the former Comp. Sci. 201).
