Three-Year B.Sc. Program in Applied Mathematics

Admission Requirements

A first year program with a mark of at least 60% in one of: Calculus 050a/b plus 051a/b, or Applied Mathematics 026. Linear Algebra 040a/b and a first year physics course are strongly recommended.

Second Year

  • Calculus 280a/b (Mathematical Methods for Scientists I)
  • Calculus 281a/b (Mathematical Methods for Scientists II)
  • DE 215a (Ordinary Differential Equations)
  • Math 236 or Statistical Sciences 236 (Elementary Operations Research with Applications)
  • Statistical Sciences 241a/b (Applied Statistics for Engineers and Scientists)
  • Two full course options (Linear Algebra 040a/b must be taken in first term if Linear Algebra 040a/b was not taken in first year)
NOTE: AM 261b (Numerical Analysis) must be taken in second or third year.

Third Year

  • AM 303a/b (Nonlinear Differential Equations)
  • AM 310a/b (Modeling and Simulation)
  • AM 380 (Mathematical Methods for Scientists III) Not offered in 2002-2003. See a department counsellor.
  • One of : Stat. Sci.301a/b (Applied Regression Analysis), Stat. Sci. 302a/b (Applied Experimental Design) or Stat. Sci. 316 a/b (Statistical Quality Control)
  • Two and one half course options
The Area of Concentration will consist of the 6.0 or 6.5 senior-level Science courses which are specified in second and third year.
